STILL HERE, BUT...

27 September 2010- Yes, STILL in New Mexico. But, I *FINALLY* have orders to Little Rock AFB, Arkansas. I don't have an exact departure date yet, but I suspect it will be sometime in the 2d week of October the way things are going here. I am trying to arrange for a place to live there, and am looking forward to getting out of here - living out of suitcases and in "hotel rooms" for the last 6 weeks is getting really old. At least with orders in hand, they can start relocating my stuff that's been sitting in storage.

More to come ... when I know more.

AND THE WHEEL STILL SPINS...

27 August 10- Ok. Yup. Still in New Mexico, for now. Still homeless (house is rented and all my stuff is either in storage or on a dock in CA) and living out of hotel rooms. Korea assignment is OFF. I don't know exactly where I am going now or when. I hope to know by Monday or Tuesday (30 / 31).

Some friends may say, "Hey, go to D*Con then!" - unfortunately, still not an option. I have to be here to take care of all this stuff until I go. I am living a very much day-to-day life right now - and it's very weird.

Not a lot more to say right now. I'll update when I know more.

MORE CHAOS

14 August 10- Well, I am still here, haven't left yet. Got delayed by work-related stuff. As it turns out, I did make it to POC (see below), and had a good time.

I expect to be leaving for Korea after a conference in DC from the 23-27th of August. Hopefully there will be more to say soon.

Oh - and if you recieved a weird email with a link from me - I apologize. Apparently after almost 15years, my AOL account got compromised - it wasn't me. It's been modified, should not happen again (I hope).

FLORIDA, DESERT, ASIA. & CHAOS

28 June 10- Yes, I have been out of pocket for a bit. I have been assigned to another Accident Investigation Board, this time investigating the CV-22 that crashed in Afghanistan. I couldn't say at the time I left, but I am just back from a trip over there as part of that investigation, which is continuing until approximately mid-June.

(Since writing the above, the investigation has lengthened and it's almost the end of June and we are still here!)

Things {had} been going pretty well in New Mexico, spent all of March on another AIB, that one on a predator. Barely had time to try to get caught up when this board dropped on me. So, it's gonna be murder when I am finally back at home after 2mos of unexpected "gone" time.

Coming up? Not much planned actually, I'll probably need to spend lots of time trying to get back up to speed at home station. I'm still planning on trying to get to (link)Play On Con() in July, and would like to get out to see Lynn, Brian & Zoe at some time, but have no idea when i can schedule it.

Well, since I wrote that above, and before I could post, Things have changed. I found out last week that I am going back to Kunsan for another year remote tour! Very short notice, they want me out there by the end of July, and I haven't even left Hurlburt field yet (I'm not even back home). I thought it was going to be busy before!! Now I will have to get my shit together in a serious hurry, and decide what is going with me and what is staying, and whether I am going to empty the house and maybe try to rent it out, or if there is even time for that. This most likely going to destroy my chances to go to POC 3, and make it difficult to visit Lynn, Brian and Zoe - unless I can work something out on my way out of town (since I will most likely fly out via California).

Suprised, stressed, and sad...

OVERDUE UPDATE

07 August 09- Yup, I know - this update is way overdue (again). Has it really been almost a YEAR since I put up that last?? I promised to let some people know what was up. Last entry described my move to New Mexico and being back in AFSOC at Cannon AFB.

So, what's been up here?

  • A new house. (Well, not quite as new now.) I am a homeowner for the first time in my life. I found a 3 BR, 2 BA house in a nicer part of town (on the golf course). It's a little older property (@ 20yrs) but that means that the landscaping is mature and I actually have trees and stuff. Now, if I could just finish moving in (it's only been about a year). I have done a few things around the house though, but nothing exciting enough to write about here.

  • Finally got a new motorcycle. Since selling the Harley in Texas, I've been waiting to pick up another. I went back and forth between getting another (slightly bigger) roadster or touring bike, which would have given me space and touring comfort, but nearly or at the cost of a new car. I eventully decided to go in the complete opposite direction and got a street cruiser (Honda 250cc Rebel) that would be fun, easy on gas, and way easier on the wallet. I did add the small saddle bags to give me a little extra carrying capacity. It's perfect for the commute back and forth to work, and "cruiser enough" for a trip to Lubbock or maybe Albuquerque. Happy riding!

  • Reunion in Florida - Last month, I went back to south Florida for the first time in years for a 'reunion' with long time family friends. Was a great time and it was wonderful to hook up with folks I haven't seen in years. In fact, it was that that convinced me to get off my ass and finally update this thing. :: grin ::
Well, I think that about wraps it up for now. Gonna do my best to be more up to date.

NEW MEXICO, USA

09 August 08- Yes, I am indeed back in the USA now, permanently (well, at least as permanent as the military allows for the time being). I am in New Mexico at Cannon AFB in Clovis, NM. For those who don’t know, Clovis is pretty much the middle of nowhere on the Texas state line.

Ok, the place is not nearly as bad as people think, and compared to Kunsan in Korea, it's positively large! Hell, we got us a Super Wal-Mart out here!

My biggest complaint is that it's a minimum of 2 hours to the nearest airport you can fly a commercial plane out of (Amarillo, TX or Lubbock, TX). But, I've got a great job opportunity here back in a command I like (AFSOC).

It's 3 hours and small change to Albuquerque (the closest "big" city), and I suspect certain weekends may involve trips there, esp. since my old college buddy and his family are there now too. Also a little over 3 to Santa Fe.
